About

Welcome! My name is Bridget O’Brien and I’m so pleased to have you here.

The Unending Ode is a glorified diary and digital space for all kinds of arts journalism (read: whatever I’m loving or pondering at any given moment).

The Unending Ode began for me like many blogs do. It was 2020; the flurry of my life waned and in the quietude, movies seeped into the uncanny vacant time like cement into cracks – binding me together, helping me cope. Suddenly far away from the bars where I’d engage strangers in late night debates about Hitchcock or Polanski, and hostage in a family home where my parents couldn’t bear to hear a fifth opinion about Diane Keaton that day, I turned to a digital platform. Silly little listicles! Ardent gun-to-your-head recommendations! Geeky indulgence of technique and theme!

Now, this hobby blog is growing up. And evolving into a space for a plethora of arts criticism and journalism. I want to amalgamate my worlds: bring my love for theatre and live music into the written word, spotlight the independent work of artist I know and adore, galvanise opinions worth reading about.

The Unending Ode will not shy away from its core values of enthusiasm and celebration. I want to balance the ecosystem of arts criticism with soapbox-mitigated critiques. The scope is ambitious. I’ll have as much to say about the next Spielberg film as I will about a two-hander doing only a weekend of shows at Backdock Arts in Fortitude Valley. Forgive me.

Thank you for embracing this journey with me. For as long as things are created, I’m going to want to enjoy them. Let this here be that unending ode.
